How Music Fuels My Creative Workflow

Music has long played a central role in my life, not just as entertainment, but as a source of focus, inspiration, and creative energy. I’ve been lucky enough to perform at some of the biggest venues our country has to offer. It’s always been more than a passion — it’s a part of who I am.

The other day, I sat down with a mountain of work in front of me — deep design tasks, client brand strategy sessions, and content creation for multiple campaigns. My brain felt scattered. Focus was elusive. So, I did what I always do. I put on some music. Within minutes, everything shifted. Distractions faded. Ideas flowed. Work felt… effortless.

Music isn’t just background noise — it’s a tool for focus.

The right soundscape can sharpen your thinking, enhance creativity, and boost productivity. For deep creative work like website design or refining brand identity visuals, I lean into deep house or drum & bass. When I’m crafting brand strategy or positioning work, I reach for something more layered, Gospel or Radiohead.
It’s all about tuning into the mindset you want to be in.

Great design, like great music, has rhythm.

A great website, like a well-produced record, flows. It guides you. It moves you.
When I design logos or build out brand identities, I’m not just placing shapes or choosing typefaces. I’m building a feeling. A mood. A story. That’s what branding is really about. It’s emotional. It’s human. It should sound and feel like the brand it represents, even when there’s no sound at all.

Logo design is more than a symbol — it’s a signature with soul.

Much like a song, a logo should be memorable, intentional, and carry emotional weight. The best logo designs aren’t overcomplicated; they’re layered in meaning. Just like a track that makes you stop and listen, the right branding stops people scrolling. It invites connection.

So when I sit down to design, whether it’s a brand refresh, a visual identity system, or a custom logo suite, I ask myself: “What should this feel like?”
Music helps me find that answer. Every single time.

Feel stuck? Try this:

If you’re facing a creative block, whether you’re designing a brand, building a logo, writing content, or mapping out a strategy, put on music. Not just anything. Choose something that matches the energy you’re trying to tap into. You might be surprised at how quickly your brain gets into flow.

Whether you’re in branding, design, or any creative space, rhythm and emotion matter more than we often realise.
